Laura Vines

Laura's style of painting is realism and her medium is acrylic. She lives on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia which is where she gets a lot of her inspriration but she also paints from other places as well. She believes this world is beautiful and likes to reconstruct what she sees and feels onto a canvas.

She paints from photographs so she can take her time and study what she sees, feeling the mood and focusing on the light, shadow and balance. She paints many landscapes and structures but also likes to paint animals, showing the sculptured gracefulness of a running horse, the loyalty of a dog, the aloofness of a cat, the agility of a bird and the curiosity of a human. She paints nature's "nature."

Painting is relaxing to her and also challenging, which makes it interesting. Her goal with any painting is to recreate what she perceives in her mind's eye. She often uses color for producing pleasure and drama but also likes to paint softer, darker scenes to evoke mood and spirit. She makes beautiful scenes from everyday life and ordinary things.
